Key Eligibility Criteria

Job Offer & Sponsor Licence
You must have a confirmed job offer from a UK employer holding a valid Skilled Worker sponsor licence. This sponsorship is the core of your application.

Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)
Your employer must assign you a CoS reference confirming your role, salary, and job details. We help verify that your CoS is correctly issued and corresponds to the application form.

Maintenance Funds
Show you have sufficient savings (around £1,270) to support yourself, unless your sponsor confirms your maintenance costs on the CoS. Our team can advise on providing financial evidence if needed.

English Language
Demonstrate English proficiency at level B2 by passing a Secure English Language Test, approved by UKVI or holding an approved qualification. This ensures you can communicate effectively at work.

Application Process

Obtain Certificate of Sponsorship:
Work with your employer to secure a valid CoS. We can liaise with your sponsor to ensure all details meet Home Office rules before you apply.

Complete Online Application:
Apply through the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) website. Select the Skilled Worker category and carefully enter all personal and job information. We assist in reviewing your answers to avoid common pitfalls.

Pay Fees and Surcharge:
Pay the visa application fee (which varies by visa duration, or your job) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), if applicable, to access NHS healthcare in the UK.

Submit Supporting Documents:
Upload required documents including your passport, CoS, proof of English language, payslips or bank statements (if sponsoring your own maintenance), and any other specified evidence (like tuberculosis test results, if applicable). Our detailed checklist ensures your document pack is complete and well-organized.

Biometrics Appointment:
Attend a visa application centre to provide fingerprints and photographs. This secures your visa application with official ID verification.

Home Office Decision:
Track the progress of your application. Standard decisions usually take about 3 weeks, or 5 working days with priority service (for an additional fee). Once approved, you’ll receive a entry clearance, after which you can travel to the UK and collect a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

How RZ Immigration Can Help

Our team supports your Skilled Worker Visa journey every step of the way:

Eligibility Check: We verify your job offer, salary, and personal qualifications to confirm you meet all visa criteria before you apply.

Sponsor Coordination: Liaise with your employer to address any sponsor licence questions and ensure the Certificate of Sponsorship is issued properly.

Document Preparation: Guide you in gathering the right documents, from pay records to tenancy agreements, and explain exactly what UKVI looks for.

Application Review: Carefully review your online form and supporting documents for accuracy and consistency, reducing the risk of application refusal.

Follow-Up: Track your application status and, if UKVI requests more information, we will assist in responding promptly. If the visa is refused, we advise on next steps (such as reapplication or appeal where applicable).

Client Support: We communicate in clear terms and respect your cultural context. Many of our clients are from South Asian backgrounds, and we are sensitive to any language or community-specific concerns.

Common Challenges

Sponsor Compliance:
Ensure your employer’s sponsor licence is current and has no compliance issues. A suspended or revoked licence can invalidate your application.

Points Calculation:
The points-based system can be complex. If your salary falls below the general threshold, you can still be eligible for the Skilled Worker Visa route. We assess your case thoroughly and advise you on the best possible solution for your skilled worker visa route journey in the UK and further route to ILR

Document Errors:
Minor mistakes or missing documents often cause refusals. We meticulously review all forms and files – for example, verifying that job titles match official codes and that all pages of documents are clear.

Changing Rules:
Immigration rules keep updating very often. Our Legal Advisors updated on new immigration rules to ensure your application follows the latest guidance.

Family Applications:
Since July 2025 not all Skilled Workers are allowed to have dependents. If you have a spouse or dependents, co-ordinating separate applications is an added step. We advise on meeting the requirements and help prepare dependent visa applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How long does a Skilled Worker visa last?
It is usually granted for up to 5 years, or the time given on your Certificate of Sponsorship, whichever is shorter. You can extend it, and eventually apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), after 5 years on this route.

Q: Can my family join me in the UK?
Yes. Spouses, civil partners, unmarried partners, and children under 18 can apply as dependents if you meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor them. We can assist with dependent visa applications at the same time as yours.

Q: What happens if I change jobs?
If you wish to switch to a new sponsor, you will need a new Certificate of Sponsorship from your new employer and must apply for a new Skilled Worker visa. We help you handle such switches so you maintain lawful status.

Q: Can I apply from inside the UK?
In most cases, if your current visa allows switching, you can apply from within the UK without leaving. We can confirm whether you qualify to switch and help with the internal application process.
